KYAHU Newsletter–May President’s Message

State Association Beginning to “Flower”

I’m sure you know the old adage around Kentucky … April showers bring May flowers.  From my vantage point, the 2013-2014 Board of Directors began planting seeds last summer, as we sat down to plan a vision for your Association in the coming year.  Our theme, Communication, Education and Legislation … for Membership, recognized that better communication, collaborative education and a continued focus on legislative issues was what our membership needed, and expected.

In the months since, communication (and trust and relationships) improved with a monthly newsletter and open dialogue between our two largest chapters in Louisville and Lexington.  Education was certainly strong – the locals led the way with the Fall Forum and Spring Symposium (both tremendous successes!), plus their monthly CE events – we continue to work on ideas to coordinate those efforts.  Finally, Legislative activities – the KEY State responsibility – were right on track.  We successfully built funding in our Kentucky PAC and are ready to be active with the Fall elections.  Our golf tournament secured the dollars we needed to fund our lobbying efforts and remain very visible in Frankfort.

The bottom line is that a lot of volunteers have donated their time and talents this year to ensure that those original seeds had plenty of water … in pursuit of a successful year.  Your State Association made many strides – an active Board, set goals to achieve, money in the bank, better relationships – and this surely will continue as we strive for even better collaboration between all our local chapters.

Again, I thank my entire Board – and ALL the local volunteers – who serve this Association and our industry.  It is an honor to serve alongside them and it is gratifying to see the fruits of our labor!
